Wale Recruiting Kanye West to Redesign the Washington Wizards Jerseys

Recently hired as a cultural consultant for the rising Washington Wizards, Wale is hoping to rebrand the budding sports franchise as it begins to move from the bottom of the Eastern Conference to the top. In a recent conversation with ESPN the Magazine, the D.C. native mentioned he hoping to recruit Kanye West as a designer for the team’s new uniform initiative.

I want to be a shot in the arm to D.C. basketball. My job is to provide a spark, at all costs. I’m not going to do anything corny, but I’m talking to Kanye about designing new uniforms. I want to see the phone booth rocking every time I come here. I want to create the “Lake Show,” create what the Bulls had. I want to take the personality of our stars — John, Otto, Marcin — and create what Kemp and Payton had, what LeBron and D-Wade had. That’s the vibe I want.

Timeless : A Closer Look at the UNITED ARROWS & SONS x adidas Originals Master

a-closer-look-at-the-united-arrows-sons-x-adidas-originals-master-1

After taking a first inspection to mixed reactions toward the beginning of the month, here we consider the latest collaboration between UNITED ARROWS & SONS and adidas Originals. The two brands worked to revive the Master silhouette – previously described as a “Gramps-approved” update to the Stan Smith silhouette. The description isn’t far off, but maybe some parties will appreciate the ease, casualness, and uncluttered minimalism that the Master so embodies. The upper is done up with plush, pristine white leather, contrasted by beige hits and a special ampersand logo embossed at the heel. The UNITED ARROWS & SONS x adidas Originals Master is available now here.

Available Now @ The Fully Laced Flagship : Levi’s Made & Crafted x Pendleton “The New West” Blanket

Levi’s Made & Crafted have teamed up with Pendleton to drop The New West blanket, a blend of unnapped wool and cotton and micro suede binding. Inspiration came from Levi’s Made & Crafted’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection which focuses on the striking, modern architecture build amidst the wild landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. The blanket works perfectly here as it features a similarly inspired “denim mountains” pattern. City versus the mountains, indoors versus the outdoors, old versus new. These opposites really brought passion to the brand’s design team. The Levi’s Made & Crafted x Pendleton “The New West” blanket is made in the USA. Available Now at the Fully Laced Flagship.

Innovation meets tradition with the new Nike N7 Holiday 2013 Collection featuring a collaboration between Nike and Pendleton Woolen Mills (PWM) to create a blanket to benefit the American Indian College Fund.  When sketching out the initial artwork for the blanket, Nike N7 Collection Designer Derek Roberts looked to traditional Native American dress for inspiration, specifically how patterns work together to create a garment. He started at the bottom of the blanket, with a smaller pattern of arrows that repeats and grows in scale towards the center and is a mirror-image pattern from top to bottom. Available Now at the Fully Laced Flagship.

Bugs Bunny Had Air Jordan PEs Before Most NBA Players

air-jordan-vii-7-bugs-bunny-cardinal-sample-01

When Nike tapped Warner Bros. and the Looney Tunes for the Air Jordan marketing campaign in 1992, they created a limited run of Bugs-molded VIIs for promotional displays.

Above is a close look at one of the Bugs VIIs in a Cardinal-like colorway. Not only is the shoe oversized, but the toebox was designed to fit the toes on a rabbit’s foot. You’ll also notice JumpBugs embroidery along the ankle. An equally rare ‘Bordeaux’ version also exists.

Would you like to see Bugs return for next year’s 30th Anniversary celebration?

Jon Jones Says He Was Dropped by Nike for Fighting

nike-drops-jon-bones-jones

If you’re an athlete signed to Nike, now is a good time to stay out of trouble.

Earlier today, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones took part in a disciplinary hearing in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The hearing was in regard to a brawl that broke out between himself and Daniel Cormier during a UFC 178 media day appearance in Las Vegas last month. In his testimony, Jones admitted that the brawl has already cost him lucrative opportunities, including his six-figure endorsement deal with Nike.

“I’ve lost a very big endorsement of mine, one of my biggest,” Jones told the NSAC. “My Nike deal.”

Jones signed with Nike in August 2012. The brand has released sneakers and t-shirts bearing his name.

Over time, the pre-fight brawl has become part of the spectacle in combat sports. Typically, fighters do a little jaw jacking, get in a shove or two and things are “broken up.” However, Jones and Cormier have genuine hatred for each other, and they couldn’t be stopped in Vegas.

Jones later pulled out of the fight, which was originally scheduled for this weekend, due to injury.

While the brawl clearly caused an uproar, dropping a fighter for fighting seems a bit over the top. Could other factors have played into the decision? In 2012, Jones plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. That incident, combined with recent troubles with NFL athletes and Olympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius, may have convinced Nike that it was time to pull the plug on the partnership.

Nike has a history of standing by athletes during times of adversity. Kobe Bryant, Ben Roethlisberger and Tiger Woods are among the star athletes that have maintained a working relationship with the brand in the midst of PR disasters. Nike was also squarely behind Lance Armstrong until he finally admitted to doping last year. The new age of transparency and social media may be forcing the company to change the way they go about dealing with their partners.
